SIMONTON WINDOWS REVIEWS

If you are looking for high rated home replacement windows, then Simonton Windows are getting high rates from consumer window reviewers who want safe windows that are easy to install and clean. Simonton replacement windows are built to protect homes from weather extremes like hurricanes as well as keeping vandals and burglars at bay. If you want solid, safe home windows, reviewers say invest in Simonton Windows and sleep well knowing that you’ve bought peace of mind.
These windows are great!
IВ really love my Simonton windows.В  From the start, we noticed a difference in our electric bill.В  Plus, they help to reduce noise.В  I also love the fact that I can open them from the top-means my cats cannot knock out the screens like they did with our 25+ year old windows.В
Simonton Windows are very good and have a great reputation. Distribution is not the best though. Delivery is quick. Price is a little higher than most. Easy to install. EnergyStar rated so you can get a tax deduction this year. Colors are limited as are the interior finishes.

We replaced all of our windows on our previous home with Simonton windows and couldn’t have been happier. We just recently sold our home and even the realtor who sold the house told her client that “these are really nice windows”. Even though we had a split level home, our heating and cooling bills were unbelievable. They really cut out the noise and I felt secure. We enjoyed them for about 7 years and never had a speck of trouble. We are getting ready to move into a new home and I know the windows aren’t nowhere near the quality we had. These windows are quite pricey but shop around. After buying ours, we discovered we could have bought them for a lot less so get estimates. You will never regret a purchase of these windows.

We purchased 10 Simonton double hung and mulled twin double hung windows. They were affordable, easy to clean, and look good. The problems started from day one with the windows. We were in the home stretch of our dairy barn renovation, turning it into a house, and had all the sheet rock up and painting almost 100% completed. We decided to go down to our almost completed house during a bad storm to see how everything was going. We found that 6 of our windows were poring with water all over our new and freshly painting sheet rock. The four windows that weren’t leaking were sheltered by the porch. Needless to say we spent every rainy night at our house ringing out towels from four house holds to help save our sheet rock. They without much questioning sent replacement windows. The next good storm we got they were all still leaking. They sent someone guys from the company to come see what was going on. They couldn’t find anything wrong with the installation, they actually complemented it, and said they would send replacement windows and this time pay for the re-installation. We have now gotten our fist hard rain since last summer and we still have three windows leaking. So here we go with round four…..

There is a mixture of Simonton and Andersen windows in the house we bought recently. The Andersen windows are tight and warm. I can sit in front of a 10′x5′ wall of windows in my family room and be snug and warm. But the Simonton windows are cold like a single-pane window..

I have had very bad experience with Simonton. I purchased a new house with all Simonton windows and the first year 2 windows leaked. Simonton had a contractor come out and try to fix them. The contractor caulked the windows in an area were he said the “factory missed that”. Well that worked for a few weeks until it rained again. This time the water literally poured in one of the windows and soaked my wall and carpet. Well now they brought a Simonton representative to look at the windows and they decided the first caulking performed by the contractor was poorly done, so they caulked it again. You guessed it next time it rained same problem. This time Simonton replaced the windows and the builder had to fix dry wall damage and paint. Now 2 years later it appears that the new windows were assembled incorrectly because the UV protection has now turned into what looks like mold. The contractor came back and said Simonton will warrentee the window but I will need to pay $175.00 for installation. So I’m paying again. Simonton windows are poor quality in my opinion and the customer service is below par. I will never use them again in any of my houses.

Looks like the Anderson reps have too much time on their hands, it appears they are making up stories about Simonton. They are all within a close timeframe and this is the only place on the internet that I’ve seen bad reviews on them.
I’m choosing Simonton because my carpenter recommended them, he put them in his house. He’s been working in new construction for 30 years. When I saw them I loved their functionality, quality construction and price. The salesman said if he were going to install vinyl windows in his home, he would also choose Simonton. We looked at the Anderson windows, they’re nice but a bundle of money. Simonton has all the features we want and more for a better price.

WE HAD 12 SIMONTON WINDOWS INSTALLED . FROM DAY ONE, WE HAD PROBLEMS ,THE TRACK ON ONE HAD TO BE REPLACED . THE WINDOWS IN THE WINTER ARE TERRIBLE ,THE COLD AIR RADIATES RIGHT THROUGH THE GLASS ,WE CAN’T SIT BY THE BAY WINDOW WITHOUT A SWEATER ON ,IT’S AWFUL AND THAT WINDOW ONLY COSTS $1800.00 HMMMM . IF I COULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN I WOULD NEVER INSTALL A SIMONTON WINDOW . ONE OTHER THING THE WINDOW LOCKS KEEP COMING LOOSE AND WE HAVE TO CONSTANTLY TIGHTEN THEM . NOT HAPPY IN NEW JERSEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

I had Simonton windows installed in my last two houses and have been completely happy with them. One of the best warrantys on the market and if you have a reputable contractor (who backs there work) install them for you, you should have no problems. The first home I had them installed in was a small town house 6 double hungs and a three panel sliding glass door. They were not only very effective but great looking as well. The house I am currently at is a rambler style home with 18 sliders windows 4 picture windows, and 1 double casement window. I decided to upgrade to the impressoins series window triple pain glass double pro solar glass with krypton gas. I think if your going to invest in somthing this substantial you may as well do it right the first time. Not only did it save energy cost but noise reduction was substantial. I cant even here my neighbors dog barking any more. Great windows, would not consider anything else with my experience. I dont know what you guys are talking about being cold next to your window Id doublecheck and make shore your contractor installed the right window.

I got Simonton double-hung impact windows last year (I live near the coast in Florida). I love the windows, except I have a LOT of trouble opening them. I am not young, and I find they are extremely heavy, and when I have to reach to open them, such as the one over the kitchen sink, I do not have the strength to get good leverage, and can only open it a couple inches. For the windows with furniture in front, such as a chest or the bed, I have to get on one side and my husband has to get on the other side, since they must be opened with equal pressure on both sides or they will come loose. Most of the windows have not been opened since they were installed. Any suggestions?

I had 2 different installations of 9 Simonton windows. First installation -ordered in October. Installed in January. Windows were hard to open and still are. Installer put in nails on outside sills and are ugly. Second installer did nice job finishing windows. NEITHER installer put in enough insullation in the old transomes and one room with double window is absolutely freezing. I have to have a space heater in room. I had insulation in first contract and the amount they put in was paltry. The windows were installed last year and the year before and there has been no heating savings from the 80 year old windows with storms.

I’m baffled buy what I’ve read in the comments of this page. I read about complaints on Simonton windows with water gushing through them and rooms being cold after the window insulation, totally baffled! What’s the reputation of the contractor installing the product? Do people research the work of these guys who they have doing the window replacement jobs. I’m very satisfied with the Simonton product and I work for a building supplier in Northern Pennsylvania that sells these windows. Northern Pa weather is across the board from wind chills in the negative figures to tempteratures exceeding 90 degrees at times. Hard rains, strong winds, powerful sun, not once have I had a serious complaint about any of the Simonton products I’ve sold. Yes, there have been complaints but all of which were satisfied by Simonton. I don’t care what product is out there, you’re going to have those who complain and have not been satisfied. Take it from someone who does not work for Simonton but enjoys selling the product and is comfortable with the service that Simonton offers. After nearly 200,000 dollars in window sales for 2009 and have not had to fight with Simonton on any of the MINOR issues I’ve had, I’ll stick with Simonton! As far as the comment about not trusting JD Power & Associates customer satisfaction report, hogwash, it is exactly what it says, “customer satisfaction”, which means they do surveys and any contractor that doesn’t take a customers opinion on the product they want installed needs to continue shopping the “depot” !

I have Simonton Storm Breaker Plus windows and we have gone trought 4 installs and they have leaked for different reasons. From extremely poor installation provided by contractors of Home Depot to poor quality installation components. The snap trim is a constant problem and is there scape goat for unexplainable leaks. The product does not live up to the claims that are made. I have had a small leak that I would not have noticed except for the fact I would not let the contractor install the sill on the inside. Sure enough there is a small leak during every rain. If you think you do not have leaks from your Simonton windows you are just unable to see them. Believe me!!!

We are building a modular with Pro-Built homes in coastal Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay. We want casement windows and will need about 20 to 25 of varying sizes, plus 2 sliding doors. Will Simonton be a good choice for vinyl windows in this home? If not, what other recommendations? The modular manufacturer also offers 7-D Windows (never heard of), Andersen, Silverline and PlyGem.

We are trying to reuse patio doors in a remodel but we are haveing problems finding the track . Can you help?

  • 18. Alan Chow  |  August 23rd, 2010 at 10:06 am

My Simonton double hung window has two broken locks. These are the two spring loaded pins that lock the window in place as you slide the window to open and close it.

Where can I find replacement parts for these windows in Irvine, CA?

  • 19. Susan Postlewait  |  October 9th, 2010 at 10:58 am

Our Simonton windows do not drain properly from the sill to the outside. We now have mold on the sill all the time. Does anyone else have this problem?

  • 20. Fred Smith  |  October 12th, 2010 at 1:45 pm

After reading all the great reviews on Simonton’s website I invested in 30 windows in my summer house at the beach. Full tear out. We just had some very big thunderstorms this summer. When we came to close the house we noticed that all our dry wall was wet. Paint had even bubbled out. Water was still sitting inside the vinyl double hung frames. You could even see water stains on the interior of the glass…. a long story short, all my windows are leaking. Also I have noticed that my blinds move when it is windy outside with air coming around the part that moves up and down. I am at lost with words. I have called and have not got any response back…..what should i do?

Let me tell you about my experience with Simonton brand windows installed in Central WI.

I had ordered 8 windows to be installed by a local city approved/licensed contractor in April of this year (2010).

They install all the windows within two days of arrival. Some are very large, 100 inches by 80 inches. Simonton Prism Platinum (reviews say the best they make) Triple Pane with super spacer (the foam insulation panel for the glass instead of the metal spacer).

Within one month, the windows give me trouble. When the sun hits the large window (casement, picture, casement) the one side won’t even open unless you forcibly move it. The frame expands and twists so much in 70 degree weather that the locking levers refuse to let the window open, all out of alignment. 70 degrees and the window flexes on it’s own over 1/2 inch from original position. At 90 degrees, forget it, that window isn’t moving even a bit. What window flexes that much? What kind of vinyl are they using? You can actually hear it flex when the temp changes. Squeak, pop, etc.

The other side of this same window, the seal blew out of the window within a few weeks. The large plastic seal that holds the glass panel in, it popped out with temp changes. Now it just sits there bowed.

Every single window has horrible insulated panel assembly. Finger prints inside the units. Glue missing on seam lines which will equal panel failure in two years. Dust, debris inside the units. Frames plastic welded out of square, large gaps in the frames when using the double hungs.

Horrible assembly and zero quality control standards obviously.

Now today, I go upstairs into a spare room and see the one window has a crack on the inside panel. No impact, I have no kids and rarely use that room so it wasn’t people. It cracked from the window flexing obviously. Total garbage windows. Can’t handle a temp change from 25 to 48 in one day.

Now I’m fighting with the contractor to fix it all but getting blown off for months.

Simonton won’t take calls from customers, they only will talk to contractors. They are no help, they don’t care.

My only course of action will be to sue the contractor and Simonton to get these issues fixed by a REAL window maker and installer.

I just had 5 of the worst windows installed. They were the Simonton top of the line. Well all have seems splitting which you can see light through, the screens don’t fit squarely and screens that let bugs in because they are so poorly made, Windows not shutting and locking easily. My ten year old windows look better built then these way overpriced pieces of garbage

  • 23. Dick  |  November 17th, 2010 at 7:13 am

We had four Simonton windows installed to replace two french doors on either side of a fireplace. Did this last year and noticed a big difference in heating that winter. Love those windows. So last week had 10 of our 20+ year old wood windows replaced. Look great and operate really great. Love these windows too.

Our Simonton windows and neighbors have air pouring thru the side channels. Model #5500. They came and put some foam plugs in the bottom, doesn’t work well. Very disappointed.

  • 25. Terri Freeman  |  December 12th, 2010 at 7:27 pm

We used Simonton windows in a full replacement with a licensed installer three years ago and have not been impressed. The windows leak a LOT of air – to the point that the wind moves my blinds and makes candles flicker when near. I made several contacts with the company (useless) who sent their “rep” out to basically doctor the windows and attempt to pacify me. We, too, had the little squares put in the sides which didn’t do a thing. We had finn strips replaced because the rep said the company didn’t use the correct ones. The installer conveniently dismissed himself from fault claiming he just installed them and I will have to deal with the company. Simonton windows are not worth your money and Simonton does not stand behind their warranty or work! The rep from Simonton I dealt with was Ron Gregory. Do not buy these windows if you expect Simonton to honor the product!

I remodeled my home about 4yrs ago, I installed 14 Simonton windows in my home, most from their 50/50 line, I am not a professional contractor, but installed, and trimmed windows inside and out. About 6 of the windows face the north and west side, so they get a good bit of wind and hard rain. All I can say is that in the 4yrs since install, they leak no water, and do not leak air, they are just regular Double hung, double pain windows, no argon, no uv coating. I believe in most of these problems are contractor and installer related, because if someone with some carpentry experience can install these with no problems, I just don’t personally believe its a problem with the windows there of good quality.

  • 27. Carolyn D.  |  February 22nd, 2011 at 7:51 pm

I recently purchased an older two story home in Missouri. I had seventeen Simonton 5300 double hung windows installed last year. I love them! I have had NO trouble with them at all, and have opened, washed, all of them. It has cut down on the noise as well as outside air coming in. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing replacement windows. Having lived in a previous older home with the original double hung windows, I can appreciate the difference in wasted energy. I would only recommend that you have an experienced, reputable installer – that would make a difference in a satisfactory install.

I just had all my windows replaced with the Simonton Impressions. They are a step down from the hurricane window. I live in Florida. The installation was good and they look good until late night and early morning. The whole outside of the windows are fogged up, I can not see thru them, even if I leave the window open at night the window is totally fogged up on the outside. Is anyone else has a problem like this? Please contact me at kmestes11@att.net. Thanks

Simonton windows came with my new build house (2001). I have had nothing but problems with these windows. Seals have failed, pivot bars are constantly breaking. Sashes are also breaking. These are just very poor quality windows (actually they’re junk)
    DO NOT BUY THESE WINDOWS!!!

  • 30. RichardM  |  June 3rd, 2011 at 7:55 am

Had ours installed in 1997. Had the first problem today with an apparent seal failure. Called Simonton and a new replacement will be on the way.
When I bought these they were the top of the line and I paid dearly for them. But with the energy savings and quietness, I’ve no problems with them and will buy Simonton again when the need arises.

  • 31. RandyB  |  August 24th, 2011 at 10:01 am

I have recently built a new house and my builder likes to use Simonton windows so that is what we went with. We live in Texas and have only had three rains in 10 months but all of the windows not covered by a porch have leaked water. One rain with 40 mph wind the water literally was running down the walls onto the floor. The last rain had absolutely no wind and the water still came in half the windows. Casement windows and single hung windows do not leak. I would never use Simonton picture windows again the rubber seal on the outside does not stop dirt or rain from entering the interior of the house. Totally ruins the reasons for using sealed picture windows.
