Hunter Douglas wins Multiple Good Design Awards

Hunter Douglas, the nation’s leading custom window fashions manufacturer, is proud to announce that the company has been awarded three prestigious GOOD DESIGN™ Awards. This year’s awards include new enhancements for the Alustra® Collection, Duette® Architella™ honeycomb shades and Modern Precious Metals® Reveal™ with MagnaView™ aluminum blinds.

The GOOD DESIGN Awards are one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious design competitions. They are hosted by the Chicago Athenaeum, a distinguished cultural institution and one of the few museums of architecture and design in the United States. Founded in 1950 by Edgar J. Kaufmann, Jr., former curator of the Museum of Modern Art, with the participation of Eero Saarinen, Florence Knoll, George Nelson and Russel Wright and other pioneers of American and modern design, the GOOD DESIGN program bestows international recognition upon designers and manufacturers for advancing new and innovative product concepts and originality and for stretching the envelope beyond what is considered standard product design. This year, the GOOD DESIGN Awards were judged by a jury of design professionals including architects, designers and authorities in the design world. There were hundreds of entries from all over the world, which contributed to the international importance of the historic award.

“We are especially honored to be recognized by such an esteemed institution as the Chicago Athenaeum,” said Donna Lobosco, Director of Brand Communications for Hunter Douglas. “At Hunter Douglas we strive to continually pioneer design innovations that improve style, function and convenience at the window, and to receive these awards is a privilege.” Hunter Douglas was the only window fashions company to receive this notable award.

The AlustraВ® Collection from Hunter Douglas won for its new introductions, including new bronze-accented fabrics and hardware finishes as well as beautiful new fabrics and colors in the Alustra VignetteВ® Modern Roman Shades offering and Alustra Woven Texturesв„ў Roman and Window Shades. Also new, the Alustra DuetteВ® Architellaв„ў Collection of honeycomb shades and Alustra AlouetteВ® LightLouvers with custom valance finishes in Silver Reflection, Gold Radiance, Bronze Shimmer and Champagne Shine.

The revolutionary Duette® Architella™ Collection of honeycomb shades received the prestigious award for being one of the most energy efficient window fashions on the market today. Duette Architella honeycomb shades feature a unique, patented construction consisting of a honeycomb nestled within a honeycomb. This provides two more air pockets than traditional honeycomb shades and dramatically increases R-values, which measure a product’s ability to keep heat in and cold out.

Modern Precious Metals® Reveal™ with MagnaView™ aluminum blinds from Hunter Douglas was honored for its innovative, patent-pending design and construction. Tilted closed, it looks like a traditional blind; tilted open, it reveals twice the view of an ordinary horizontal blind.   All awards and winners are posted on the Museum’s Web site at chi-athenaeum.org. Hunter Douglas Inc. is a national sponsor of Habitat for Humanity, covering windows in every Habitat home built in the U.S. and Canada. Headquartered in Upper Saddle River N.J., the company is the leading manufacturer of custom window fashions in North America.
