Custom Windows for Oddly Shaped Rooms

September 11th, 2007

There are many reasons for using custom windows in a home. You might want to create a specific look for a decorative theme of your home or you may want to add more light to your home, so you need larger windows. Or you might want to add light to a room without any windows, so you need to create a space for a window that might not be a custom shape. But the most popular reason for custom windows is in the case of oddly shaped rooms that just aren’t designed for the windows that are sold at retailers.

For many, custom windows are the only option that will work for their home. These homes might be oddly shaped for many reasons – an older style home, like a Victorian or an older time period. Some of these homes have smaller rooms that require smaller windows to work. In other cases, the walls might be angled differently than they usually are, resulting in a new complication for custom homes. If your home sounds like this, you might need to choose specialized windows.

Custom Windows

When you think that you might need custom windows, you might want to take the measurements of the room as well as pictures that the windows customer service representative can look at. In this case, you may not want to shop for your windows online, but rather you will want to shop in person. By being able to physically describe what you need, you will be able to get the right windows the first time. And if you still can’t quite describe the room to the sales rep, you might want to have someone come out to your home to look at your specific situation.

Oddly shaped rooms need custom windows for several reasons. In order to be energy efficient, your windows need to be properly sized. When they’re not quite right, you could end up with drafts and problems with the sealing around the edges. Windows that aren’t custom fit in these special situations can also look completely different than other windows in the home, making them stand out – and not necessary in the way that you want.
