Capturing the View With Replacement Windows
June 15th, 2007
If nature is your paradise, then you’ll want replacement windows that help capture those images. Whether you live in a developed subdivision or a woodsy acre lot, your windows can dramatically enhance your views.
Selecting Replacement Window Styles
The style of your windows is important when focusing on outdoor views and activities. If you want to quickly crank open a window and let a cool breeze float in, then casement windows are a good selection. These windows have a sash that opens outward and is hinged on one side. When you crank the window lever, the window opens by moving to the right or left.
Another option is the slider window, which slides open sideways. Contractors often recommend this type of replacement window in a basement. As basements often are starved for light, this is one home improvement project that can pay big dividends.
Window Locations
The location of the replacement windows also can enhance–or detract from–a view. Many home owners put large picture windows in their living rooms for just that reason. Or consider these home improvement fixes:
- Add a large bay window in the dining room to overlook your fish pond or bird sanctuary.
- To avoid the view of the neighbor’s deck, ask the contractor to shift the window downward and make it smaller.
- Add transom windows, which are installed above a door or bank of windows, to help view tall tree foliage.
- Try a set of three large double hung windows in the family room overlooking the backyard flowerbed and kid’s play area.
There are many ways to use replacement windows to connect you with the outdoors. Many of these home improvement fixes will enhance your daily life and improve your property value. Ask your contractor to walk around the house with you to search for ideas.
