Front Door Makeovers

December 19th, 2006

Your front door greets guests long before you do. It waves at people driving by. It says, “Hey, here’s what this house is all about.” What is your front door saying about you? Here are real life examples of homeowners who decided their front doors weren’t getting it quite right and did something about it. Read on for how-to inspiration.

Door #1 – Pink Flowers Weren’t for Them

When Keith and Nan bought their home six years ago, they loved it, but the front door just had to go. A large stained-glass window featuring pretty pink flowers sent a “little old lady lives here” vibe that really didn’t this practical pair. They replaced the door with a simple, solid, energy-efficient aluminum door, which they promptly painted a vibrant navy blue. The crisp young couple now salutes you long before they answer the door.

Door #2 – The Rickety Screen Door Strikes Again

Laura’s condo came with a heavy wood front door painted dark brown, which condo rules wouldn’t allow her to replace. A rickety screen door (complete with slightly ripped screen) completed the look. Good thing condo rules said nothing about replacing the sub-par screen doors. Laura replaced hers with a stately wrought iron and glass “screen” door that projected elegance, setting her apart from the masses.

Front doors speak volumes. If yours is speaking out of turn, give it a makeover. Be proud of what it says about you.
